1. The History of Bibimbap

Bibimbap, a common sight in Korean culture and dramas, has become one of Korea’s most popular dishes globally.

Translating to “mixed rice”, it typically contains ingredients like rice, seasonal vegetables like spinach, radish, soybean sprouts, carrots, mushrooms, gochujang (red pepper) sauce, and sliced beef.

But did you know that bibimbap started off as a way for Koreans to clear off their leftovers in their pantries on the eve of Lunar New Year? A dish that started with humble beginnings has now evolved into one of Korea’s signature dishes.

With the rise in popularity of bibimbap over the years, we wanted to adapt this dish so that anyone could consume it, vegetarian or not. At Sufood, expect a treat for the eyes with our mixture of colourful ingredients – corn, spinach, carrots, radish, burdock, and kimchi topped with our King Oyster Mushroom and red pepper paste!

P.S. Bibimbap is often served either in a mixing bowl or in a dolsot (stone pot). And here at Sufood, to truly emulate the experience, we serve it in a scorching hot stone pot too! Mix the ingredients up and enjoy!

2. 5-Grain Rice

Did we also mention that we don’t use just any ordinary rice in our version of bibimbap?

Choosing to include another aspect of Korean cuisine, we also decided to use 5 Grain Rice instead of ordinary white rice.

Known as ogokbap, 5 Grain Rice is often consumed by Koreans as a healthier alternative to usual white rice. But it is more famously known as a dish eaten by Koreans on the Jeongwol daeboreum (Full Moon of the First Month) to wish for a good harvest and nutrition for the upcoming seasons.

High in nutrients and fiber, savour bibimbap in a new way with Sufood’s Zesty Oyster Mushroom Stone Pot 5-Grain Rice!

3. King Oyster Mushroom

A fusion of cultures to produce a delicious, vegetarian dish that all can enjoy.

That’s our main goal here at Sufood.

That’s why we’ve added a special twist to the usual bibimbap and included oyster mushrooms instead of the typical shiitake mushrooms used.

First cultivated in Germany, it has become a mushroom commonly used in many cuisines and cultures and also as a meat substitute. King Oyster Mushrooms are often used in pasta dishes, and are very popular in Veneto, Italy. With its meaty, dense texture, and flavourful umami taste, it is a common ingredient in Italian dishes.

Be pleasantly surprised by the chewy and unique texture of our King Oyster Mushrooms and witness the delightful combination between both Italian and Korean cuisine with our Zesty Oyster Mushroom Stone Pot 5-Grain Rice.
